Do yourself a favor and pick up Yvonne Gage’s new album, “Feel Love.” You won’t regret it. There’s so much to enjoy here, starting with the new single, “Light My Fire.” It was a huge hit by The Doors in 1967 and later by Jose Feliciano.

Now listen as Yvonne weaves her magic into the song. She breathes new life with her sultry vocals and makes it a contemporary masterpiece.

This is the type of album that you can just put on and let the music find you. The first tune, “Imagine” sets the tone for this R&B and jazz feast. It was co-written by music exec Maurice White who also contributed “Your Mind.” “Reservation For Two,” and the title track, “Feel Love.”

Other showstoppers include “A Song Of Love,” co-produced by Gage, and the sexy “Sensual Getaway,” co-written by Gage who also co-executive produced the entire album.

Yvonne delivers a masterful interpretation of Marvin Gaye’s classic, “Save The Children.” You immediately realize how relevant the song is today.

Yvonne slips in what will certainly become a soulful Christmas classic, with “Spend Christmas with You.” The tune is co-written by Verne “VA” Allison, the son of Verne Allison of the legendary Dells.

She describes the “Feel Love” album as a project of love and positivity. “It made me start thinking about world love and world peace, not just the romantic kind of love but different spectrums of love. I want that kind of love for everybody.”

Certainly, no newcomer to the music industry. She has done background vocals for the greats in music including Aretha Franklin, Michael McDonald, Stevie Wonder, Ashford and Simpson, and Celine Dion.

She has enjoyed success in the European music market notably with the album, “Virginity.”

The Chicago native grew up surrounded by music, pure jazz, and soulful R&B music. She was influenced by Sarah Vaughan, Phyllis Hyman, and Minnie Riperton.

“At the very top of the list was Sarah Vaughan. That is who I grew up listening to. Sarah Vaughan was just a stand-alone in my heart.”

As the years went by she fell in love with the music of Phyllis Hyman and Minnie Riperton.

“With Phyllis, she just melts my heart. She speaks to me. We are kindred spirits. She approaches melodies and lyrics the way that I would.”

She adds, “With Minnie Riperton, it is her range, all the sensual qualities that she had. To me she is boundless.”

Looking ahead, she hopes the “Feel Love” will “guide me down the Grammy path.”
